LONDON PRISONER LOCATIONS The London locations for the shooting of THE PRISONER have always been around since roughly 50 years. Travellers for the PRISONER, however, should be aware about the question whether if coming to London only for those places is really worthwhile. London is an expensive place to be. There isn't much in terms of relation to the series. After all, it's "only" London streets or squares. Otherwise rather functional buildings were used for some scenes like the GEC Marconi building in Borehamwood (not listed below) and its Paternoster lift from the episode "Do Not Forsake Me Oh My Darling". But once in London, which is always worth traveling, one can easily pass by one or the other of those locations. 1 Buckingham Place, Number Six' London home, would be the most prominent of all.
London BorehamwoodWhoever, once in London, is looking for the place of the former MGM film studios wanting to see the exterior locations used for the PRISONER would have to go to Borehamwood, which is about a one hour ride from the city on the regional train. Would have to.
Today there's a street called "Studio Way" leading through it. But it isn't the round square on the aerial photo which was once the "Harmony" set! It would have been located on the lower left part of the photo, just above the white hall and on both sides of Studio Way, today partly used as car parking areas. Ultimately, in London, fans don't need to fall into despair when it comes to commemorating THE PRISONER. Beside 1 Buckingham Place and Number Six' home since 2011 there's been a small Walk of Fame at Elstree-Borehamwood train station and one star in honour of Patrick McGoohan. 6 PRIVATE - HOME OF NUMBER SIX Based on a collection made by Roger Langley; aerial photo by Google * Well detaled descriptions of this as well as other PRISONER locations can be found on the website: http://www.theunmutual.co.uk/mgmbore.htm |
